Please note:  This radio is classed as a restricted supply by RSM; available to licenced radio amateurs (GAOC) only.  Details that are required to be advised to RSM, relating to supply of these radios, include your Name, Callsign, Address and Phone Number.  Proof of GAOC required to purchase this item.

What sets the  Quansheng UV-K5(8) apart from other budget handhelds is ability to change the firmware functionality.  Source code and compliation tools are freely available on Github, as are many pre-compiled firmware versions.

Note: Screen display on images in this advert are from aftermarket firmware.

The UV-K5(8) is immensely popular owing to the upgradeability of its operating software.  While essentially a dualband 144/430 MHz transceiver with additional RX bands (discontinuous coverage from 50 through 600 MHz ) out of the box, a fimware update expands the RX range from 18 to 1300 MHz.

For configuration by PC ( the UV-K5(8) is supported by Chirp ) a standard "K1" connector ( 3.5mm + 2.5mm  plugs ) type USB to RS-232 style serial cable is required.  The cable is commonly available as a "Baofeng" programming cable.  The programming cable is not included with the radio - we can supply cables.
